What Hiking Taught Me About Job Searching

As someone who spent a lot of time hiking and traveling the country, I started to see something funny—how similar job searching is to a tough but beautiful hike.

Here’s what hiking taught me about navigating a job search:

1. 🗺️ You Need a Plan

You wouldn’t head into the backcountry without a trail map. Same goes for your job hunt. Know where you’re going, what roles you’re targeting, and what tools you need to get there.

2. 🥾 You’ll Hit Steep Climbs and Rocky Patches

Rejections? Dead-end applications? Interviews that felt like a bust? That’s all part of the hike. It doesn't mean you're lost—it just means you're climbing.

3. 🧭 Your Path May Change—and That’s Okay

Sometimes a trail closes, or you spot a side route that looks better. In your career, you’re allowed to pivot. You’re allowed to explore new directions.

4. 💪 You’re Stronger Than You Think

The job search can feel heavy. But just like on a trail, you’ll surprise yourself with how much you can carry—and how far you can go when you take it step by step.

5. 🌄 The View Is Worth It

That feeling when you land an interview, sign an offer, or finally feel excited about a new opportunity? That’s your summit moment. It’s why you kept going.

Whether you're on a literal trail or navigating your next career step, know that you don’t have to do it alone. I’m here to help you plan your route, prep your gear (aka resume + LinkedIn), and cheer you on the whole way.

Let’s climb something great together. ⛰️
